As a Host Box Waiter you will be working in a private hospitality box hosting up to 20 guests. A Box Waiter makes events special and memorable by enhancing the guests experience at an event. You will welcome the guests, prepare beverages and serve food on the guests’ request. If not already set, you will be required to organise the room and take ownership of the service in your box.

We need to ensure that the guests have the most memorable experience we can create. Each box will be set differently depending on the package. Your supervisor will go over this with you when you first arrive. Remember to take notes in the brief and be aware of the timings for each event. Any questions please ask your supervisor or manager.

A few key things to check:-

  • Your fridge is turned on and working, and any stock is in it.
  • All tables are correctly laid, cutlery and glass ware is clean and polished.
  • You have a kettle and the necessary Tea and Coffee making ingredients.
  • You have ice and the necessary service tongs.
  • You are aware of the menu you will be serving.
  • You have the necessary crockery in your hot plate ( main course plates for all your guest, clean and polished)
  • There is salt and pepper on your tables.
  • Lights and TV all work
  • Heater is turned on and works.
  • Check your uniform, ensure you are exceptionally dressed, No make-up, jewellery piercings etc.

Basic Box service standards.

  1. Ensure box is fully set up 30 minutes prior to the host’s arrival.
  • Stand outside your box to great your host 15 minutes before guest arrival
  • Immediately acknowledge your guest ( Establish the hosts name and introduce yourself)
  • Greet host
  • Offer drinks
  • Introduce other team members
  • Explain facilities - toilets, fire etc.
  • Check requests with hosts:
  • Confirm Times/ Food service
  • Check numbers and dietary requirements
  • Ask host to sign stock sheet at the beginning and end ( unless otherwise told by your manager/supervisor)
  • Make sure guest have a drink at all times
  • Keep box neat and tidy
  • Build rapport with the guests. Nothing is impossible.
  • Keep all guests informed about bar closing times.
  • Re set box and leave tidy at the end of the day.

Roles and Responsibilities for Host Box Waiters:

  • Welcoming to guests in the box, taking their coats and offering a drink.
  • Collecting orders & upselling food and drinks to customers.
  • Serving food and drinks to guests on requests.
  • Setting up the box pre-event.
  • Polishing cutlery and glassware.
  • Clearing plates and glasses keeping the box tidy.
  • May be required to wash up plates/ glasses for your box.
  • Opening a corked wine bottle and champagne bottle and confident to pour and serve wine correctly.
  • Product Knowledge- understand the food and drink menu you are serving.
  • Understand how to serve and clear crockery, cutlery and glassware correctly.
  • Display composure and professionalism at all times.
  • Knowledge of buffet and plated service.

Requirements:

  • Have completed a training session in the Host Office.
  • Previous hospitality or customer service experience.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of licencing laws.
  • Smart, friendly, polite, professional and always well presented.
  • Confidence interacting with guests.
  • Ability to walk/ stand for long periods.
  • Knowledge of the 14 Allergens and their importance.

Timekeeping:

At Host we take timekeeping extremely seriously. You are expected to be ready for work at the booking time sharp. Your briefing will be scheduled and a late arrival will affect the operation so please allow yourself extra time to get changed into your uniform as well as for unexpected travel disruption. We recommend you aim to arrive 15 mins early to your shifts to prevent complications. If you arrive late to work you may be sent home without pay. (1 minute past the shift start time is considered late).
