A student visa issued for full-time degree level studies allows you to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week during term-time. This is a maximum of 20 hours in total in any one week, including paid or unpaid work and for one or more organisations. The 20 hours cannot be averaged over a longer period.

A ‘week’ is defined as a period of 7 days beginning with a Monday.

However, it’s essential for you to take individual responsibility for tracking your working hours. Host, while we can limit the hours you book in advance on the app, cannot accept responsibility for the tracking of your hours. We may receive timesheets, with a delay of up to 7 days after the actual work has been completed. As a result, we do not have real-time visibility into the number of hours you have worked. It is also possible for you to be engaged with other employment while you are working for Host and therefore the responsibility lies with you to comply with your visa regulations.

A student visa issued for full-time degree level studies allows you work full-time during official vacation periods. It is important you check your term dates and fully understand your right to work before applying for shifts.

To ensure proper compliance with the visa regulations we kindly request students provide proof of their term dates in advance to recruitment@host-staffing.co.uk.This could include a copy of your academic calendar or an official document from your educational institution indicating the start and end dates of your academic terms.

Postgraduate study:

Please note that the term dates used by undergraduates do not apply to postgraduate research courses and some taught Masters courses. Most postgraduate research students on Student/ Tier 4 visas are restricted to a maximum of 20 hours per week of work throughout the year, since research students are not considered to have terms.

It is therefore not possible for a postgraduate research student to undertake full-time work during the summer period.
